The mission of the SJN Health Ministry is to provide an informational and educational forum on health related issues, focusing on nutrition, diabetes, obesity, chronic disease and HIV/AIDS. It works with volunteers and with multiple health care providers within the parish and around the community. The SJN health ministry provides an outlet in the promotion of healthy living, healthy eating, physical activities and the spiritual stewardship of our bodies and health. Classes and health programs are offered in both English and Spanish. For information about upcoming classes, or to volunteer to assist in this ministry, please contact Jonny and Gloria Andia at 770-449-2229.
Please select the program of your preference for more information and if you can, please bring the completed questionnaire to the first scheduled class.
Diabetes Management Program: For additional information as well as dates for this planned program.
Nutritional Program for Cancer Patients: (in conjunction with the University of Georgia, Cooperative Extension) Cooking For A Life Time, Note: There will also be specific services offered ie: Mammogram and Pap Smear to those who qualify.
HIV/AIDS Holiday Bucket Project: The Holiday Hope Bucket project began in 1999 as a way of providing a gift of toiletry articles to HIV/AIDS patients at a hospital in Knoxville, TN and it was the creation of Carol-Ann McMillan. The project is an excellent way for the SJN community to become involved in the HIV/AIDS Outreach program. This project allows people a “toe-in-the water” experience and can often be the vehicle that will lead people to do more.
The SJN Health Ministry/HIV/AIDS Outreach program has selected the Living Room Inc, an Atlanta non-for-profit organization that since 1995 has served over 23,000 households affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The mission of Living Room, Inc. is to obtain and maintain long term stable housing for people living with AIDS. These toiletry buckets will go directly to people who are living with HIV/AIDS and are in the process of obtaining housing.
Last year we collected over 35+ buckets and the institution that works with HIV positive homeless people were so happy to receive them and distributed to so many people in need.
