Safeguard Our Children and Our Homes!
Dear SJN Parishioners, today we are joining our Archdiocese in observing “Safe Haven Sunday.” This awareness day will give us an opportunity to address the harmfulness of pornography in marriages, families and our culture as a whole, while providing helpful resources to equip parents and to safeguard children and our homes.
Safe Haven Sunday is inspired by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) formal statement, “Create in me a clean Heart: A Pastoral response to pornography.” The statement explains, “The use of pornography by anyone in the home deprives the home of its role as a Safe Haven and has negative effects in a family’s life.”
Parents and guardians, teachers and Catechists, be vigilant and protect your home and your children from the evil effects of pornography and from the misguided and sexualized culture. You can have a great influence on the children and Youth entrusted to your care. Educate yourselves about filtering software that can assist in protecting your home, and foster openness with your children.
Thank you for your active response in creating a Safe Haven in your homes.
