Continuing the mission of Christ
Third Sunday of Advent
The Mission of the Messiah is foretold by Isaiah the Prophet in today’s 1st reading. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to heal the broken hearted…” (Is 61:1-2) Jesus fulfilled these prophesies when he began his public ministry. John the Baptist prepared the people for the coming of the Messiah by calling them to repentance. In humility he fulfilled his mission by remaining as the voice of God in the desert.
Our Mission at St. John Neumann Parish Community is to continue the mission of Jesus Christ, to make known His Gospel to others around us, by living and sharing our faith through our kindness and charity. Participating in the Angel Tree program, adopting a family for Christmas or being part of the foster care support ministry, these are some of the ways by which we can continue the mission of Christ.
To use the words of John the Baptist, are we making a straight way for the visitation of God? This Advent is a time when God will visit us if we allow him. If we have not yet begun to have a renewal of our life, then let’s begin today. It is never too late to begin.
