Be The Change You Wish To See In The World
Second Sunday of Advent
We are already in the second week of Advent. Christmas has been so commercialized that it brings so much stress into our lives that we forget what Christmas really is. What are we to do to keep Christ in Christmas? How can we experience in our hearts the Joy, Peace and Love that Christ Jesus gives us at Christmas time?
Both Prophets Isaiah and John the Baptist show us the way in today’s Scripture readings. “Prepare the way of the Lord through repentance and change of heart.” This should be the spirit of the season of Advent. Isaiah seems to be telling us, “Level the mountains of your sins and pride, and fill the valleys of your emptiness with love and good works.”
All of us desire to see changes in the world. We wish to see a cure for every deadly illness affecting humans. We want to eradicate poverty and hunger. We want to put an end to violence and injustice. We want to see peace and order restored in our families and in our society. But what are we doing from our part to bring about these changes? Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Change has to begin with oneself.
Our parish Advent Penance Service will be on Monday Dec 18, from 7 pm. This is a great opportunity for a personal spiritual renewal before Christmas. Wish you all a Spirit-filled season of Advent!
