5th Sunday of Lent
Nothing in life is more certain than death. Yet, many people ask, “After death, what?” Jesus has the answer in today’s Gospel. “Whoever believes in me even if he dies, will live and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. For I am the Resurrection and the life.” Jesus came to fulfil God’s promise through the Prophet Ezekiel that God will gather back dead people from their graves and give them life. Jesus raised Lazarus from death as a sign that there is life after death, eternal life.
Aside from Physical death, there is also Spiritual death that happens to us due to our sins. The good news is that Jesus can restore us from both physical and spiritual death. He wants us to die to our envy, anger, hatred and selfishness so we can live in peace with God and one another. When we die to our selfishness and begin to live for others, then Jesus will be glorified in us. This season of lent is a great time to die to ourselves and to allow Jesus to become our Life and Resurrection.
